By Stella Dhinakaran
Dearly beloved,
When the Lord Jesus was in this world, He prayed unceasingly. He prayed in the morning and evening. He often went to the mountainside or solitary places to spend time in prayer (Mark 1:35; Matthew 14:23).
Before choosing His twelve disciples, He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God (Luke 6:12). Before going through the crucifixion, He offered up prayers and supplications with vehement cries and tears to the Father (Mark 14:32-36; Hebrews 5:7). He submitted Himself to the will of the Father and prayed (Luke 22:42).
Not only that, when a man’s son, who was sick, was brought to the disciples, they could not heal him. After that, when that boy was taken to the Lord, He said, “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:21; Mark 9:29).
When the Son of God Himself fasted and prayed, how much more should we fast and pray! The Bible relates, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).
After my husband Bro. Dhinakaran received the anointing, I too began to pray saying, “Lord, I too need this anointing of the Holy Spirit. Both of us want to be zealous in seeking You. Only then, there would be blessing in our family life and ministry.” As a result, the Lord graciously granted me the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
One day, ten more minutes were left for my husband to leave for his office. At that time, he began to pray that God should fill him with glorious spiritual experiences. It was then that the Lord took him in spirit to heaven for the very first time. Since he did not waste even those ten minutes and sought the Lord diligently, He took him to heaven and gave him the privilege of seeing the image of the Father. The Father asked him, “What do you want?” He replied, “I want the gifts of the Holy Spirit.” The Father then asked, “Do you need the gifts or do you need Me?” The Holy Spirit prompted him to say that He needed the Father. When he asked accordingly, the Lord granted him His gifts.
Dear ones, every one of us can receive such glorious experiences through prayer. Prayer is a life that is united with God. When we live a life having a close communion with God through prayer, His power will abundantly increase in our life and works. Then the Lord will do great things through us.
The Bible encourages us to pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Accordingly, seek the Lord diligently in prayer. Then He shall empower you through the Holy Spirit. You shall do great exploits for Him.
