SET YOUR HEART ON GOD

By  Paul Dhinakaran

Dearly beloved,

The Lord Jesus Christ is our living hope. How can He give us hope? He came into this world like us and walked in a path similar to ours. So He knows very well about our concern of tomorrow. In 1 Peter 1:3, the Bible says that He has begotten us again to a living hope through His resurrection.

Many years ago, a salesman who sold law books took a room in a hotel in Chicago to sell his books. But he was unable to sell them. His hotel bills alone rose to an exorbitant amount. Unable to pay back his debts, he thought that the only solution for him was to commit suicide.

Since he stayed on the top floor of a multi-storied building, he opened the window to jump down. At that moment, a Gideon’s Bible caught his eye. He made up his mind to read it before meeting his death. So he turned the pages of the Bible when his eyes got fixed on Matthew 6:33: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

The light of this verse went piercing his heart. A divine presence and peace filled him. Without his knowledge, he slept peacefully like a child. When he woke up the next morning, a great hope filled him. With the belief that the Lord would help him, he continued his business. Surprisingly, from that day onwards, there was a great blessing in his business. He sold a lot of books and became a great man in that field.

The Lord says looking at us who are suffering in hopeless situations: “Return to your fortress, O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you” (Zechariah 9:12).

Why should we worry ourselves concerning tomorrow? Let us submit our lives wholly to the Lord Jesus who has walked in a similar path and has overcome the concern about tomorrow. He will take control. Set your heart on things concerning the Kingdom of heaven and abide in God in order to lead a righteous life. Then He shall provide all your needs.
