THE VICTORY AT CALVARY

By Paul Dhinakaran

Dearly beloved,

Today is Good Friday which commemorates the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross in obedience to the will of the Father. After His disciple Judas Iscariot betrayed Him, the ordeal to the Cross began. The Lord Jesus was crucified on the Cross with huge nails being driven into His hands and legs.

The Bible relates, “It was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. Then He cried with a loud voice and said, “Father, I commit My Spirit into Your hands and breathed His last” (Luke 23:33, 44-46).

The wounds in His hands and feet speak of His love for us. When His disciple Thomas did not believe Him, He showed His wounded hands and said, "Put your finger here; see My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe" (John 20:27). Why did the Lord Jesus bear the wounds in His hands? His hands are the ones that embrace us in love. In Isaiah 66:13, the Almighty says, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”

The Lord Jesus Christ says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The Bible says in Mark 10:16 that the Lord took the little children in His arms and blessed them by placing His hands on them. Those very hands were wounded to embrace us and heal us of our wounds in life. He bore our sicknesses and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God (Isaiah 53:4).

The hands of the Lord Jesus are the ones that created the world. He bore the sufferings to give us new life. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” The Lord Jesus says, “See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut” (Revelation 3:8).

Dear Friend! Are you saying, “All the doors have been closed and I don’t have a way to live in this world?” The Lord Jesus Christ bore the wounds in His hands to make a way for you. Run to Him Who is waiting for you with open arms. He knows the problem that is crushing you. Humble yourself before Him. He will create an open door for you and build your life. The wounded hands of Lord Jesus will heal you of your agony and pain and bless you mightily.

The Scripture says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). The Lord Jesus suffered afflictions for the sake of mankind. He bore the punishment in order to bring peace and healing to us. He won the victory on the Cross!
